Yet another flash card app
Flashcards from the words you look up
Save a word and Yafdeck builds the card for you, with a real example sentence and a phrase worth knowing. Then it schedules the review.
Free. Two languages. No card building. Ready-made decks to start with, a level to work towards, and grammar drills as you go.
vermeiden
to avoid
Ich versuche, unnötigen Stress zu vermeiden.
I try to avoid unnecessary stress.
etwas unbedingt vermeiden
to avoid something at all costs
Knowing a word is not the same as being able to use it, so the two are scheduled separately.
Start with a ready-made deck
Nothing to study on day one is the hardest part of a new app. Yafdeck has twelve decks for each language, four topics at each of A1, A2 and B1: everyday basics, food and drink, getting around, work, health, opinions and more. Each is twenty-five words, chosen for the level, and adds to your deck in one tap with a free account.
The words arrive ten a day, so your first session is a handful of cards, not fifty. Each comes with its example sentence and phrase card, like any word you add yourself.
- Hallohello
- Dankethank you
- bitteplease
- jayes
- Neinno
and twenty moreSee the whole deck
How it works
- 1
Add a word you met
Type a word you want to remember. Yafdeck works out which of your languages it belongs to.
- 2
You get two cards
The word with its meaning and an example sentence, plus a separate card for a phrase built around it.
- 3
Review what is due
Spaced repetition handles the scheduling. You just answer what is due today.
What you get
More than a translation
Every word comes with a sentence you would actually hear, and a reusable phrase like "etwas unbedingt vermeiden".
Nothing is deleted
When a deck fills up, Yafdeck either stops adding or archives cards you have clearly learned. Archiving keeps your history and can be undone.
Your cards are yours
Export everything as CSV whenever you want, ready for Anki. Edits you make stay on your own cards.
Works without the AI
Studying, browsing and statistics do not depend on an assistant being available.
Know where you stand
Reviewing builds up a picture of what you know. Yafdeck shows it to you plainly, without points or badges.
Level

Confirmed by assessment
Estimate

From 340 settled words
An estimate, then a level you confirm
Yafdeck estimates your vocabulary from A1 to C2 from the words and phrases you have kept. When the estimate reaches the next level, three short assessments open, and passing them confirms it.

Milestones and a weekly rhythm
A first card, a seven-day streak, a hundred settled words. Each is said once, then kept with its date. Set how many days a week you mean to study, and a rest day is not a reset.

Where you slip
The grammar patterns you forget most, counted from your own answers over the last month. Each one links straight to a drill.
Both readings are estimates of your vocabulary in Yafdeck, based on the words you have learned here and the assessments you have passed here. They use the CEFR names to be easy to read, but they are not an official CEFR result, and they do not measure speaking, listening, reading or writing. For a recognised certificate, take an official exam.
Drill the grammar you keep getting wrong
Pick a pattern you slip on and get ten blanks to fill, each cut from a sentence on your own cards. A wrong answer shows the right one and a line on why. Practice is separate from review and never changes when a card comes back.
While Yafdeck is free, everyone gets ten drills a week. Reviewing your cards is not limited, and never will be.
Share what you are learning
A quiz anyone can take
Make a fifteen-question quiz at your level and send the link. Friends take it without an account, and if they sign up, the words they missed become their first flashcards.
A list of your words
Pick words from your cards into a collection with its own page. Anyone with the link can see the list; adding it to their own deck takes a free account.
Save words straight from ChatGPT
You already ask AI what unfamiliar words mean. Connect Yafdeck and the words you are taught land in your deck as you go, without leaving the conversation or writing a card by hand.
The integration is built and working. It becomes available to everyone once the app is approved for the ChatGPT directory.
Using Claude? It works there today. Add Yafdeck to Claude.
Already use Anki? Keep using it
Yafdeck is not trying to be a better flashcard engine. It handles the part before study, which is noticing what you learned and turning it into a card worth reviewing. Export to CSV and study wherever you like.
