Add Yafdeck to Claude

Four steps, about two minutes. After that, the words Claude teaches you become flashcards without leaving the conversation.

Before you start

You need a Yafdeck account with at least one language added. Create one if you have not yet. It is free.

You also need a Claude account. Adding your own connector works on every Claude plan, including the free one, which allows a single custom connector.

1. Open Connectors in Claude

  1. In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors.
  2. Choose Add, then Add custom connector.

2. Paste the Yafdeck address

  1. Give the connector a name. Yafdeck is the obvious one.
  2. Enter this as the server address, then choose Continue:

https://yafdeck.com/api/mcp/claude

Claude then shows the sign-in settings it detected. Leave them as suggested and choose Add.

3. Sign in and approve

Claude sends you to Yafdeck. Sign in, check the two things Claude is asking to do, and choose Allow:

  • See your languages, deck usage and whether something is already saved
  • Save words and phrases into your decks

Claude never sees your password, and those two things are all it can do.

4. Ask what a word means

In a chat, check that Yafdeck is switched on: the + button by the message box, then Connectors. Then ask about a word in a language you are learning, for example "What does vermeiden mean?"

Claude answers and saves the word with its meaning and an example sentence. The first time, Claude asks your permission before it uses Yafdeck. The card is due for review straight away.

If something goes wrong

  • Nothing gets saved. Claude decided not to use the tool. Ask it directly, for example "save that to Yafdeck", and check the connector is switched on for that chat.
  • It says your connection expired. Disconnect Yafdeck under Connectors in Claude and connect it again.
  • It says the language is not configured. Add that language under Languages in Yafdeck first. An account holds two at a time.
  • It says your deck is full. Archive some cards, or turn on automatic archiving of mastered cards in Settings.

Still stuck? Email hello@yafdeck.com and say which step you reached.

Disconnecting

Remove Yafdeck under Connectors in Claude, or under Settings in Yafdeck, where every connected assistant is listed. Either takes effect immediately, and your cards stay where they are.
